Deep in the Japanese country side, toiling in a sandpit, I spotted several of the feared kaiju that will one day whup the mighty merc's sizeable posterior: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Let's face it, in truck awesomeness terms, the one thing that trumps 6x6 underpinnings is a half-track. Your turn, Mercedes:

Kinja'd!!!

Also, the Merc maybe acting all butch, but we all know that they're basically sheik sandpit toys, while the bling-less, flat white Honda kei trucks I saw were very much working to earn their keep. Biding their time.

Speaking of kei trucks and vans, these things are absolutely everywhere in Japan, and used for absolutely anything. But one thing that struck me about them was that they all used to be cab-overs – like this Honda Acty van vending fried octopus balls near a station – but more of them were getting more conventional wheel first layouts.

Kinja'd!!!

Yet both layouts were available from the same brand at the same time. Until it dawned on me that all the wheel-first keis were vans, and all the cab-overs were pickup trucks.

Why? Well, let Honda show you:

Kinja'd!!!

Clearly, if your daikon need to be hauled over a hillock, or you need to take that right angle on your rice paddy dyke, the tiniest of wheelbases trumps everything.

Which makes the Honda Acty Crawler even more invincible.

Kei cars/trucks are my passion so every time someone post something about them I shall reply with:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I like where your head is at. A Kei truck like this would do every thing I need a truck to do and it can do it while sipping fuel.

I've never been to Japan(yet but it's on my bucket list) but I have been to the Philippines a few times and these are just as common there as they are in Japan. these are Awesome they use them for everything they even convert them to a style of bus called Multicab that caries 16passengers in the back.

like this:

A cube van to get supplies for the local corner store

A Water Truck

an this crazy guy hauling a load of pallets.(I wouldn't want to be the guy on top he was only a few inches from the power lines.
